Marking UN Day of Peace

Events took place across Hounslow to mark the United Nations Day of Peace 19th – 21st September. Worshippers at Friday prayers at the Hussaini Mission in Isleworth heard a denouncement of extremists such as Islamic State.  Leaders of local churches and other parts of the Muslim community joined representatives of the Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist and Jewish faiths, local Humanists and Hounslow Council in signing the statement  ‘United we say YES to peace’.  Guests also viewed an exhibition of art prepared by Westbrook, Nishkam and Tarbiyya primary schools and the Mission’s own children on the theme of peace.  The event was featured on the ITN Regional News at 6.

Saturday 20th at St Dunstan’s Church in Feltham, open as part of Ride and Stride fundraising event for historic church buildings, launched their ‘peace tree’ which remained up until the following harvest weekend for messages of peace to be added.

Hounslow Methodist Church in Bell Road held an open tea on Sunday, with peace as the theme for their evening service on Sunday.  See photos of the weekend in our Gallery.
